Mount Ida’s Pulse Fashion Show Review
The Mount Ida Pulse Fashion Show featured the work of the university’s talented fashion students from bright-eyed freshmen to experienced seniors. There were some intriguing collections such as a menswear collection with a feminine edge by Florence Duah. The two graduating seniors spotlighted with awards for their collections were Lauren Paige and Danielle Fernandes.
Paige’s passion for design began in high school with a pair of shoes she lusted over on a website. She wanted to be able to create similar items herself, so she signed up for a sewing class and has been creating clothes ever since. Her collection at the Pulse Fashion Show was winter-themed, dramatic and dreamy.
“I love history and they recently found a burial ground in Russia filled with women warriors. I love empowering women and hearing about strong women sent me running,” said Paige, when asked what inspired her collection.
Fernandes, on the other hand, always had her heart set on working in fashion but found her true focus and began to explore her technical skill while attending Mount Ida. She says it still bewilders her to think about how much she has evolved throughout the years. The collection she debuted had dark, gothic influences and expressed her strong, unique individuality.
“Anything and everything inspires me,” said Fernandes. “After graduation I hope to gain experience and one day own my own line and store.”
It was refreshing and thrilling to see the work of young, promising designers who may be strong contenders in the fashion industry during the years to come. It is important to support fashion’s youth in order to ensure the growth and creativity of fashion’s future.
